I'm posting this in response to this: http://blog.bioware.com/2012/03/21/4108/
First of all, I think you guys are great, and not only because you are a Canadian company(WHICH IS AWESOME), and not just because ever since I tried the demo, and then Mass Effect 3 itself, it has occupied more gaming hours than any other title, no its a lot more than that, you are very community minded, and I think the studios, developers, that concentrate largely on what their community wants, and doesn't want, tend to be more successful anyway.
So I was a fan before I read this letter written on behalf of your company, and when I finished, well I was furious to be honest, I am so sick of following the gaming studios, publishers, etc. and reading comment after comment of these gamers complaining about every little aspect that they don't like, or for example, trashing guys because they started the series later on, didn't play the particular game from its very first title, really guys?I'll admit, I didn't try Mass Effect until just before number 3 was released, I watched a video about the game, learned a bit about the story, went online, learned some more, loved the demo, pre ordered it, and even got the Kinect as well, so shoot me!
That said, I loved it so much, that I refused to finish it before I'd played through at least one of the first two games, I learned that the original title is a lot harder to find, so I grabbed Mass Effect 2, and finished it first, and then did the import ME2 character thing, and restarted number 3, and played that way, I am kicking myself for not playing this series all along, but to be honest, there is so many games, and I'm not rich, I just know how to save my money for whats important to me.
Now back to the point of me writing this, I just cannot believe that so many people would complain about the ending of this game to prompt a public apology of sorts, Bioware you have NOTHING to apologize for, JEEZ kids, don't some of these people realize that no matter how much work they do, no matter how many fans ideas they listen to, there is no way that you can make everyone happy, I think given the epic climax this game was built up to, NO ending would have satisfied all of their fans.
I guess I'm always shocked to learn how much hate some gamers have for certain titles, I appreciate them all, I might not play all the Lego games, but they definitely have value, and more importantly some very smart game developers poured their heart and soul into making them, so how some of these individuals can be so harsh, and mean in their critique is beyond me.
I do have one complaint about Mass Effect 3 though, if this is the last one, well that really sucks, I love so much the way your past decisions follow you from game to game, when my Future Shop gaming guy was telling me about that for the first time, I thought what a clever idea, and so original, and now that I've played a game like this, I want more of them.
I'm just an average guy, 34, I love gaming more than anything, without getting into it, it helped give me my life back, something to concentrate on and look forward to, other than the self destructive behaviour I was entrenched in about 6 years back.So yes I'm very passionate about the games I play, however I'm not going to attack the company, its employees, or any of their creative work, and especially not because the ending of the game didn't turn out the way I wanted it to!
I'm not trying to tell people how to express their angst, or hate for a games content, in fact this probably won't be read by more than a few people, I was just so astonished that the critique, or out right slams against the game, and or its company, employees included, had gotten so bad that it required a public statement addressing it, I just couldn't believe it.
I also liked that he said they always do their best to listen to constructive criticism from their fans, well that right there is an indication of a game developer that takes its community very seriously, and should warrant a lot of respect, apparently that is not the case or I would not be writing this blog post.
In conclusion, I now realize my intention for writing this was unclear, I was just so mad, I think the social media world has a definite value, that said, its also a conduit for people to voice their every critique, dislike, or pet peeve.
